‘What’s the difference between counselling and parent coaching?’ is a question often asked. Think of your car. There are times when your car needs a repair…perhaps the engine needs to come out, be stripped down, a part replaced, and then rebuilt. Other times your car needs to go in for a service, a check up. It hasn’t stopped running, but may not be running as efficiently as it will once the plugs have been changed, the engine tuned, and some oil applied! There are times when counselling might be helpful to ‘repair’ something deep seated, maybe from our past. Parent coaching will help us fine tune what we are doing so that we can function more effectively as a parent. Elsewhere on this site we likened parent coaching to sports coaching.
